Dog Brothers - Real Contact Stickfighting Seminar

Posted in Filipino Martial Arts, Dog Brothers on May 4th, 2008

On May 4th several members of the Real Contact Fight Team / FMA class went down to Team Ruthless’ gym in Virginia for a seminar with Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny.  The seminar consisted of mostly stickfighting techniques along with some knife defense.  Dog Brothers footwork has been a huge influence on how the RCFT moves on their feet.  Be it boxing, Muay Thai or MMA we have seen a usefulness in the footwork presented by Crafty.  Thank you Crafty for all the knowledge you have shared with us!

Shane’s Assistant Instructor Muay Thai Test

Posted in Muay Thai on May 2nd, 2008

Congrats to Shane Finn for passing his Assistant Instructor / Level I Muay Thai Test on May 1st 2008! The test consisted of a thorough demonstration of boxing and muay thai technique along with the Ram Muay (Ceremony) and two rounds of kicking (60 kicks & 35 knees). Thanks to everyone from the Real Contact Fight Team for helping out with the test!  It’s great to have such an awesome team willing to help out their fellow teammates!

Very Impressive!

GSP - Lead Superman Punch

Posted in Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Boxing on April 27th, 2008

I found a great .gif on the Underground Forum of the GSP vs. Serra fight where GSP throws a Superman punch which sets up a low leg round kick. The cool thing about the way GSP throws this combo is that the Superman punch is off the lead so instead of it being a cross, it’s a jab. I honestly don’t think I ever thought of the Superman punch being thrown off the lead as it was always meant to be a set up off of the round kick.

Working Examples - the “Hitchhiker Escape”

Posted in Jiu-Jitsu / Grappling on April 24th, 2008

In relation to the material we covered today in the 11AM class, here is a working example from this weekend’s fight between Rich Franklin and Travis Lutter. Watch the clip starting @ 3:30 of the clip (1:55 in round 1). Franklin is mounted, Lutter pulls off the arm bar and Franklin performs the hitchhiker escape.
